What's New on the Exterior of the 2027 GMC Sierra 1500
The redesigned pickup wears an all-new exterior built around what GMC calls machine-precision forms. The grille is more vertical. The signature headlamps and taillamps have been reworked, with available welcome and farewell animations. GMC signature WOM lights and available quad exhaust outlets round out the look, and each trim gets its own front-end treatment.
AT4X Exterior
On the off-road AT4X, GMC has confirmed a more purposeful stance. That includes a 2-inch suspension lift, an exclusive hood design, and a new front fascia.
Denali and Denali Ultimate Exterior
GMC has not published trim-level wheel or grille specifications. U.S. News reports that Denali Ultimate adds a more brightly finished, finely detailed grille paired with 22-inch alloy wheels. It is a premium direction that mirrors the look of the GMC Yukon.
Across the lineup, U.S. News also reports that GMC has strengthened the look of the wheelwell arches and rocker panels for a tougher stance and better protection against road debris. The MultiPro tailgate remains part of the package, and GMC has hinted at updates in the form of additional tie-down points.
2027 GMC Sierra 1500 Engines: Two All-New Sixth-Generation V8s
The powertrain lineup changes in a big way for 2027. GMC is introducing GM's sixth-generation Small Block V8 architecture, and the long-standing 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8s do not carry over. In their place are an all-new 5.7-liter V8 and a high-output 6.6-liter V8. Both engines add advances in combustion, cooling, and control systems, plus a new fuel injection system. GMC says the result is better refinement and performance across everything from daily driving to rock crawling and towing.
| Engine | Type | Status for 2027 | Output | Transmission |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2.7L TurboMax | Turbocharged four-cylinder | Enhanced — best-in-class standard torque | Not yet announced | 10-speed automatic |
| 5.7L V8 | Sixth-generation Small Block V8 | All-new for 2027 | Not yet announced | 10-speed automatic |
| 6.6L V8 | Sixth-generation Small Block V8 | All-new — most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class | Not yet announced | 10-speed automatic |
| 3.0L Duramax | Turbo-diesel inline-six | Returning — class-exclusive | Not yet announced | 10-speed automatic |
GMC calls the 6.6-liter V8 the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 engine in its class. It is the standard engine on the flagship Denali Ultimate. The base powertrain is an enhanced version of the 2.7-liter TurboMax turbocharged four-cylinder, which GMC says delivers best-in-class standard torque. Specific horsepower and torque figures for all four engines will be announced at a later date.
The previous 8-speed automatic is out. GMC has confirmed that all available engines — including the base four-cylinder and the returning 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel inline-six — pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Towing, Off-Road Hardware, and Real-World Utility
For shoppers who rely on a light-duty truck for demanding work, the redesign is built around capability. Official tow ratings and payload specifications are still pending from GMC and will be published ahead of the on-sale date.
Maximum towing and payload capacity figures are based on properly equipped vehicles and vary by configuration. Do not exceed any weight rating. See your owner's manual and the vehicle's door-jamb label for specific capacities.
Diesel Towing
The returning 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel inline-six remains a strong choice for long-distance hauling, and GMC notes that no other competitor in the class offers an available diesel engine.
AT4X Off-Road Hardware
The AT4X is built for extreme terrain. It pairs front and rear electronic locking differentials with the truck's drive modes to help optimize traction across surfaces. GMC says no competitor in its class offers that combination. New Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers are tuned to manage high-speed off-road impacts and rough surfaces. The AT4X also rides on 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires as standard equipment, a Sierra first.
MultiPro Center Console
Inside the cab, the available all-new MultiPro center console opens to create an extended work surface. Available USB charge ports stay within easy reach, and the front row gains dual wireless charging. It is a practical setup for a laptop or paperwork on the job site.
2027 GMC Sierra 1500 Trim Levels
GMC has streamlined the lineup for 2027. The previous SLE and SLT trims have been discontinued. Six trims remain: Pro, Elevation, AT4, Denali, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate. The simpler structure makes it easier to pick the combination of luxury, capability, and technology you want.
| Trim | Super Cruise | Confirmed for 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Pro | Not announced | Work-focused entry trim; redesigned interior |
| Elevation | Available | Retail volume trim; SLE and SLT do not return for 2027 |
| AT4 | Standard | Off-road trim; redesigned interior |
| Denali | Standard | Premium trim; redesigned interior |
| AT4X | Standard | 2-inch suspension lift; 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires; front and rear e-locking differentials; Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers; AEV Edition package available |
| Denali Ultimate | Standard, with three-year subscription | Standard 6.6L V8; more than 60 inches of combined digital displays; Bose Premium Series audio with front head-restraint speakers |
GMC has not published 2027 Sierra 1500 pricing. Detailed trim-level pricing will be announced closer to launch. While you wait, you can compare GMC trucks against the competition or look at what's on our lot today.
Denali Ultimate Interior Technology and Displays
The Denali Ultimate offers more than 60 inches of combined digital displays, which GMC says is the most in its class. Five screens make up that total.
| Display | Size (diagonal) | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Center infotainment screen | 16.3 inches | Class-exclusive articulation with hidden storage behind the display |
| Front passenger screen | 11.5 inches | Media and entertainment, with an articulating cover |
| Driver Information Center | 12.2 inches | Configurable vehicle information in the driver's line of sight |
| Head-up display | 15 inches | Multicolor projection of speed, navigation, and driver assistance alerts |
| Rear camera mirror | 8.5 inches | Wider rear view than a traditional mirror when the bed or rear seats are loaded |
Driver-assistance and advanced safety systems are supplemental aids and are not substitutes for safe and attentive driving. Availability, operation, and effectiveness vary by trim and equipment and depend on factors including road, weather, traffic, and vehicle condition. Always keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road. See your owner's manual for system limitations and details.
